Tough economic times call for tough decisions and usually some of the expenses have to be cut in order to survive. Fuel is as much of a basic necessity as food or water for a normal man, and raising oil prices have certainly made many people scratch their heads.

We have seen oil prices here raising upto 82 Rs per Litre, that is almost a dollar per litre. Many people tend to switch over to much resonable option, seeing the fact that diesel is now priced more than petrol, CNG is the ony alternative that people have left.

Most people who actually know cars, know the fact that CNG is as toxic to your car as nicotine is to your body. Many people stick to petrol but fear their pockets being emptied.

Here are certain tips that i would like to share, that might just give you better mileage from every last drop of petrol that you put into your car.

  1. First check the ratio of air fuel mixture, it should be 14:1 i.e. 14 parts of oxygen and one part of fuel. This can be check through the carburetor.
  2. Get your car regularly serviced, nothing improves mileage better than a well tuned engine.
  3. Avoid harsh driving, abrupt speeding and stopping consumes a greater amount of fuel.
  4. Avoid idling your engine, it wastes a great amount of gasoline.
  5. Always keep tyre pressure up to the mark, make sure that your tyres are not under or over inflated, this improves fuel efficency and also takes out chances of irregular wear and tear on your tyres.
  6. Avoid higher speeds, speeding improves your fuel consumption by 20%, avoid driving over 120 km/h. It is not safe either.
  7. Avoid taking short trips on your car, repeated starting and stopping of engine will also take away those extra miles.
  8. Use AC only when driving above speeds of 50 km/h because then air drag makes it more or less the same thing.

Acting upon these tips will surely increase your mileage and squeeze out miles from every last drop of petrol put into your car.
